Best Sig P938 Holsters [IWB & OWB] for Concealed & Open Carry

With so many people conceal carrying and many more considering it, the small single stack pistol market has exploded in recent years. Even Glock pistols, known for their double stack high-capacity guns, has come out with a single stack .380 ACP pistol to compete with Sig Sauer’s near perfect p938.

The p938 is one of our favorite handguns for conceal carry purposes.  It’s a reliable 9mm that has a metal frame and is almost as light as the p238 in weight which makes it an excellent conceal carry gun, especially for women needing a smaller pistol.  While it does have the typical Sig break in period to function properly, it’s an excellent handgun for those looking to minimize their imprint while carrying everyday.

If you’ve chosen to go with the Sig p938, there’s a multitude of options available for holsters. Below we look at our five favorite sig holsters, as well as a few tips to make sure you’ve got the right holster for your concealed carry weapon (CCW) needs.

What To Look For

The Sig p938 is not heavy or bulky. In fact, they designed Sig P938 holsters for people who wanted the slimmest and most compact conceal carry gun possible. While some commonalities exist, people carrying a P938 tend to differ from the folks that daily carry a full sized 1911.  The P938 being a smaller pistol lends itself to many different holster types. The most common holster types for the Sig P938 is inside the waistband or IWB. Another holster style is outside the waistband or OWB.

However, inside the waistband is the most comfortable carry method, as well as the most secure and concealed. Sig p938 holsters work well for IWB. Also, manufacturers design most holsters primarily with inside the waistband carry in mind. Another most popular way to carry this gun is pocket carry. While many people don’t have front pockets large enough to conceal a gun, they can carry a wallet holster in their back pockets.

The type of material you choose depends on how much maintenance you want to do. Kydex holsters dominate the market and just about every category of holsters. This is because they are inexpensive, lightweight, low profile and maintenance-free. The only downside of Kydex is that it is rigid and unforgiving for larger people.

However, leather and textile holsters are available in most holster categories, as well. These holsters are more expensive and require more maintenance. But they are far less rigid and more comfortable for people with odd body shapes or wide hips.

Overall, the tech holster you choose is dependent on personal preferences and experience. Although you can’t go wrong with any of these SIG P938 holsters, over time you may gravitate towards a certain type of holster carry method. Experiment with different carry methods and holster designs as you gain experience. It’s all part of learning to conceal carry.

Alien gear holsters are famous for perfecting the hybrid holster design. The idea behind this holster is to combine Kydex, leather and neoprene to make one of the most comfortable holsters out of the box on the market.

The body of this holster consists of leather. This adds stiffness and rigidity, but also allows it to bend to the shape of your hip. Kydex adds retention and strength to the portion of the holster that holds your gun. And they use neoprene everywhere the holster contacts your body.

This makes the holster rigid enough to support the weight of your gun across your hip and belt, yet extraordinarily comfortable right out of the box. No break-in period is required and everything about this holster is adjustable from the retention to the cant and right height.

  • Pros: Supremely comfortable out of the box, durable and fully adjustable.
  • Cons: A strong side hip holster only.

This holster is slightly bulkier and heavier than other holsters. The three layers of material that make up this holster add bulk but it is well worth the comfort and extra cost.

Concealment Express has an excellent Kydex Option that’s great for both IWB and OWB carry.  If you OWB carry, you’ll want to select the “opposite” draw hand in order to ensure you have easy access to your P938.

The holster is a Kydex combo, and the only drawback is that you can’t switch which side the belt clip is on, which is why you’ll need to select the “opposite” draw hand if you intend to carry OWB.

The holster design has a 0-15 degree adjustable cant, which only requires a screwdriver to make simple adjustments.  While we always recommend picking up a quality gun carrying belt, the weight of the P938 and this holster makes carrying a breeze, even with a standard belt.

  • Pros: High quality, comfortable, canted and easy to conceal.
  • Cons: Can’t adjust the side the belt clip is attached, so you have to buy two if you want IWB/OWB carrying

Get this holster if you’re looking for one of the most comfortable SIG P938 holsters on the market. This is an affordable option that’s got the minimalist in mind, and will do the job without breaking the bank.

When many people think of a “tuckable” IWB holster, they think of an inexpensive nylon and knockoff design for people who only occasionally carry. Tuckable SIG P938 holsters are excellent for people who want to be able to comfortably and covertly carry a smaller caliber gun like a Sig P938.

New Barsony has you covered with this two-piece kit that includes a full grain premium cowhide leather holster, with a matching magazine carrier. Despite consisting of heavy-duty leather, this durable set only weighs six ounces including the steel belt clips.

  • Pros: Comfortable, compact and lightweight.
  • Cons: The leather needs regular maintenance and the steel belt clips can damage car paint and furniture.

The durable high-quality stitching along all the edges of the holster reinforce the material to make it easier to carry. Overall, this is a bare bones holster they made extremely well that is comfortable to carry and use.

The exterior coating on this holster is grabby. It creates a comfortable friction that holds your holster in place during movement and draw. For larger guns, it doesn’t work well, but for micro-sized guns like SIG P938 holsters, it is a brilliant idea.

This holster is the smallest, most minimalist design you can get that still covers the gun completely. It works equally well as a pocket carry holster and IWB. It won’t work for OWB because there’s nothing to hold the holster in place. But for CCW, there’s few holsters on the market that can be nearly as comfortable as this one.

  • Pros: Supremely comfortable, versatile and innovative.
  • Cons: Only works with tiny, lightweight guns; you must be diligent about drying if it gets wet.

Having a proper holster for pocket carry is extremely important and nothing comes close to the versatile, comfortable design of this holster. The only caveat to it is that it absorbs water, so you need to dry it thoroughly, which can take a while.

This is the epitome of Kydex SIG P938 holsters that Tulster makes. And, it’s what other Kydex holsters should be. Available in nine different colors, this is an extremely refined and well-made holster. While it’s more expensive than many of its competitors, it’s worth the money for the slight edge you get in footprint reduction and a comfortable design.

  • Pros: High-quality design, workmanship and materials; maintenance-free.
  • Cons: Rigid and unforgiving for larger people.

In terms of a Kydex holster, the high-quality design and barebones design is what you need to safely carry a gun. You can rely on this high-quality holster daily for inside the waistband carry.

Making Your Choice

Choosing a conceal carry holster is a personal decision and one that no one can make for you. If you’re just starting out, consider buying one or two inexpensive SIG P938 holsters and experimenting with carry positions, carry methods and holster materials until you find what works well for you.

Once you have found the carry method you like, practice drawing and re-holstering with an unloaded gun until it becomes second nature. Carry gun concealed is an excellent way to protect yourself and your family but is fraught with risk if you’re not sure what you’re doing.

By the best equipment you can, and practice as often as you possibly can manage. Your life, property and the lives your family might depend on it.
